The Myanmar delegation, led by Union Chief Justice U Tha Htay, attended the 13th International Legal Forum of the Asia-Pacific held in Russia from 21 to 24 September.

The forum is held every two years, aiming at strengthening the legal collaboration of the Asia-Pacific region, and the forum could discuss and exchange views on judicial transformation processes with chief justices and legal officials of the regional countries.

On the morning of 21 September, the Union Chief Justice attended a bilateral meeting with Mr Yuri Ivanenko, Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, and held discussions to strengthen bilateral judicial cooperation between the Supreme Court of the Union of Myanmar and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding on judicial cooperation.

The Union Chief Justice and delegation attended the “Welcome Reception” hosted by Mr Yuri Ivanenko, the Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, which was held at the building of the Third General Jurisdiction Court of Cassation on the same evening.

On 22 September, the Union Chief Justice attended the 13th International Legal Forum of the Asia-Pacific together with the judiciary officials, justices and legal officials from 16 countries.

During the Forum, the representatives discussed a variety of topics in the Forum sessions related to Tax Law, Customs Law, Competition Law, and Intellectual Property Law. Assistant Director of Union Supreme Court U Zarli San read a paper named “Intellectual Property Rights Protection in Myanmar: Judicial Perspective and Experience” at the forum.
