A combined security team operating on the Yangon River in Botahtaung Township, Yangon Region, seized a motorboat carrying 997 kilogrammes of Ice (methamphetamine), with an estimated value of approximately K29.91 billion, during a patrol on 16 September, according to the Myanmar Police Force. Six individuals involved in the drug trafficking operation, including those transporting the drugs on the vessel, were also arrested.
During the incident, the joint security team stopped the motorboat driven by Khin Maung Lin and Thet Paing Htoo (alias) Thet Paing at about 1:30 am near the triple confluence in Botahtaung Township. Upon inspection, the authorities seized 997 kilogrammes of Ice (methamphetamine) valued at around K29.91 billion.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Kyaw Soe Min, who was transporting the drugs, at about 11:30 am on 16 September in Thamada Bank Ward, Dala Township. Later the same day, at around 1 pm, Kyaw Thein Oo (aka) Kyaw Gyi, identified as the person who ordered the transportation, was apprehended in Pazundaung Township, while Zaw Min Naing (aka) Zaw Min Lat was arrested in Yankin Township. At about 12:30 pm on 17 September, authorities arrested Myo Naing (aka) Akyee Kaung, who had used a sand-suction boat to carry the drugs to Myetsane Island in Kyimyindine Township, along with another motorboat, in Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township.
Reports confirmed that the seized narcotics were intended to be transported from Myetsane Island in Yangon towards the high seas by motorboat. The arrested suspects are being prosecuted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigations are underway to capture other individuals linked to the trafficking network.
