The Government of Myanmar is cooperating with neighbouring countries and other countries in the region to completely eradicate online scams and online gambling activities, which pose threats to global socio-economic development and national security. As part of these efforts, illegal buildings in the Shwe Kokko area, where such activities were most prevalent, are being systematically demolished to prevent them from being resumed there.

In this regard, as of today, 90 per cent of a six-storey building in Shwe Kokko Phase II, which was used for online scam and gambling activities, has been demolished using machinery. Demolition work on another five-storey building in the area had also reached 30 per cent completion.

A total of 63 remaining buildings in Shwe Kokko Phase II that were used for online scam and gambling activities have been classified according to the demolition methods to be employed. These include buildings to be demolished using machinery, those to be demolished through controlled explosions, and those located close to residential homes, which will be dismantled floor by floor by manual labour. Of these, four buildings designated for demolition through controlled explosions and five designated for demolition using machinery, bringing the total to nine, have already been systematically demolished. The remaining 54 illegal buildings will also continue to be systematically demolished, according to reports. – 100/KZL
