Close cooperation and balanced collaboration between the government and the private sector are essential to ensuring the systematic and sustainable development of Myanmar’s tourism industry, revitalizing the international tourism market, and contributing comprehensively to the national economy and the socioeconomic well-being of the people.
Tourism is not only a sector that contributes to a country’s economic development but also brings numerous benefits, including creating employment opportunities, increasing the income of local communities, promoting the growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and raising international awareness of the country’s traditional heritage, culture and natural beauty. Therefore, tourism is a sector of great importance to national interests.
Therefore, hotel and tourism associations need to work together in unity and cooperation to build a better future for Myanmar’s tourism industry and ensure its long-term sustainable development. In addition, they should make creative and innovative efforts to promote the growth of the tourism sector and attract international visitors to explore Myanmar’s unique and outstanding destinations through various ways and means.
Furthermore, efforts should focus on formulating tourism promotion plans for each region and state; identifying and promoting prominent year-round festivals and developing new tourism products tailored to individual destinations; issuing travel advisories for each region and state; and encouraging hotel and tourism associations to strengthen joint promotional activities in cooperation with state-owned media and television channels.
Greater emphasis should also be placed on expanding and improving the use of online booking services, e-ticketing systems and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. In addition, handicraft and artistic industries that can attract international tourists should be expanded and developed through innovation, thereby supporting the growth of the tourism industry alongside other business activities.
To promote the development of the tourism industry, the Myanmar Tourism Federation and its affiliated associations must strive to achieve progress in their respective sectors while working together to address and overcome prospects, existing challenges and forthcoming tasks. Only through such collective efforts can the socioeconomic well-being of local entrepreneurs and communities who depend on tourism-related businesses be strengthened and improved.
Primarily, to accelerate the recovery and development of the tourism industry, efforts must be made to develop tourism products tailored to individual destinations and systematically identify and promote prominent year-round traditional festivals, ethnic New Year celebrations, traditional cultural events, destinations showcasing cultural heritage, and travel itineraries that appeal to tourists. These initiatives should be pursued to promote economic growth in both the State and private sectors.
