The Government prioritizes combating online fraud and gambling operations, which pose a global menace, as a national duty. It is actively collaborating not only with domestic stakeholders but also with neighbouring governments to completely prevent such activities from taking root within the country.
During area clearance, search and screening operations conducted by joint security teams to prevent online fraud and gambling syndicates from establishing footholds in local areas, authorities arrested 95 Chinese men and four women who were allegedly involved in online scams and gambling at around 4:30 pm on 21 October. The arrests took place approximately 3,600 metres northeast of Mongtwam in Monghsat Township, eastern Shan State.
The suspects were arrested inside a 100-foot by 50-foot building with a zinc roof and corrugated iron walls that was being used to conduct online fraud and gambling operations. Authorities also seized 13 all-in-one computers, 193 mobile phones of various models, two Starlink devices, 23 tables and 92 chairs.
Following the necessary investigations, stern and effective legal action will be taken against the arrested suspects under existing laws, while the seized equipment will be processed in accordance with established procedures.
Recognizing that online fraud and gambling severely damage the social lives of people worldwide, undermine human ethics and dignity, and threaten both the public interest and national security, the Government will continue conducting effective searches, inspections and crackdowns in cooperation with domestic forces and neighbouring governments until these syndicates are completely eradicated from the country.
The public is urged to cooperate in combating these operations by reporting any information concerning online fraud and gambling activities to the relevant authorities. Security forces will also intensify efforts to eradicate online fraud and gambling syndicates in partnership with local communities. — 100/ST
