THE delegation led by Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw U Aung Lin Dwe arrived at Victory Square in Minsk yesterday morning to lay a wreath and pay tribute at the Victory Monument, followed by an exchange of warm greetings with the officials present.

The Victory Monument in Minsk is an iconic historical landmark built in 1954 in honour of the Soviet soldiers and Belarusian partisans who sacrificed their lives fighting against Nazi invaders during World War II. Subsequently, the Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and his delegation arrived at the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, where they were welcomed by Ms Natalya Kochanova, Speaker of the Council of the Republic, and other officials.

The Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw then held bilateral talks with Speaker Ms Natalya Kochanova in the Fireplace Hall on the third floor of the upper house. During the meeting, both sides held cordial and candid discussions on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on 22 September 1999, which marked its 27th anniversary on 22 September 2026, and the strong foundation of mutual trust and understanding built over the years. They highlighted how the foresight and friendship of the two countries’ leaders, together with reciprocal visits, had deepened bilateral relations and generated mutual benefits.

They also discussed the ongoing implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership, the adoption of the Cooperation Roadmap (2026–2028) to further strengthen bilateral relations, and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting cooperation across the partnership. Furthermore, the discussions covered ways to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation, share best practices and experiences in parliamentary affairs, organize exchange visits by parliamentary delegations, and work closely together in international parliamentary forums for mutual benefit.

Following the meeting, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Amyotha Hluttaw of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus was signed by Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Speaker U Aung Lin Dwe and Speaker Ms Natalya Kochanova in the Praesidium Meeting Hall on the second floor. Afterwards, the Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw signed the Distinguished Visitors’ Book. In the afternoon, the delegation led by the Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw visited the Minsk Tractor Works, the Minsk Automobile Plant, and the First National Trade House shopping centre.
