A ceremony marking the full moon day of Tawthalin, known as Garudhamma Day, was held at the designated areas of Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon yesterday.
The ceremony included offerings of alms, fruits, flowers, water, lights and incense to the pagoda, recitation of Gathas and the Five Garudhamma Precepts, and a question-and-answer session on the significance of the day.
A religious ceremony was also held during which the pagoda board of trustees and devotees received the Nine Precepts, offered robes and donations to monks, listened to a sermon and shared religious merits.
The pagoda board of trustees donated day meals to Ovadacariya Sayadaw and monks. The pagoda platform was also crowded with pilgrims on the full moon day of Tawthalin.
