The Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Home Affairs General Ko Ko Oo attended the International Conference on Combatting Online Scams held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 23 and 24 September and returned to Yangon by air yesterday evening.
The Myanmar delegation, led by the Union minister, attended the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Combatting Online Scams on the morning of 23 September and continued to attend the conference titled “Online Money Laundering Gangs: A Global Emergency”.
At the conference, the Union minister emphasized that the Myanmar government has identified online fraud as a national security threat and is taking steps to root out criminal networks. Myanmar is actively participating in international and regional cooperation in line with the Theme “Acting together towards breaking the chain and eradication of online scams”. It is time to take immediate action on the ground to combat online fraud with mutual trust, cooperation and shared responsibility; by working together, we can break all the chains of crime and combat online fraud.
In the afternoon, the Union minister received a delegation led by Mr Yang Weilin, Deputy Minister of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China, and discussed bilateral cooperation in combating online fraud.
On the morning of 24 September, the Union minister met Mr Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs of Cambodia, to discuss cooperation between the Ministries of Home Affairs of the two countries, including crackdown on online fraud and attended the closing ceremony of the International Conference on Combatting Online Fraud in the afternoon.
During the visit, Myanmar’s efforts to combat online fraud, as well as encouraging outcomes, were highlighted. — MNA/MKKS
