TIME MAGAZINE, through the Myanmar Embassy in Singapore, has proposed to publish an interview entitled “The Future of Myanmar”, incorporating the Myanmar Government’s efforts “in safeguarding the historic role of the State in non-disintegration of the Union, in achieving national solidarity and peace and stability in the country as well as the success in the Peace Talks”.
As Time Magazine is regarded as a reputable media outlet, the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar decided to receive Journalist Charlie Campbell and to have an interview with him, in order to respond constructively to their proposal. However, when it was published on Time Magazine’s online media platform, it was written as an article, instead of an interview, and did not reflect the actual Q and A. Moreover, the article, unfortunately, included non-constructive writing, interviews with other individuals and unfounded commentaries.
Time Magazine and the journalist Charlie Campbell have published an article contrary to established media ethics and the initial agreement made between concerned parties. Moreover, the article highlighted the writing, which will have negative impacts on Myanmar and its ruling government by the international community. Therefore, as the writing and publication by journalist Charlie Campbell of Time Magazine are contrary to journalistic ethics, the Information Team of Myanmar has denounced his actions in this regard.
