President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently in Viet Nam at the invitation of President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam Mr To Lam and his spouse, held talks with Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam Mr Tran Thanh Man at the National Assembly Building in Hanoi yesterday morning.
During the meeting, the Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman warmly welcomed President U Min Aung Hlaing and the high-level Myanmar delegation, expressing his delight at Myanmar’s successful holding of the multiparty democratic general election and the formation of a new government.
He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts being made under the leadership of President U Min Aung Hlaing to ensure State stability and peace, improve the socioeconomic well-being of the people, achieve positive results across various sectors, including international relations, and promote national development through comprehensive efforts.
He reaffirmed that Viet Nam respects and values Myanmar’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and right to make independent decisions. He also said that Myanmar could regard Viet Nam as a reliable and trusted friend.
The Viet Nam-Myanmar comprehensive cooperative partnership would continue to develop, bringing practical benefits to the peoples of both countries and making positive contributions to peace, stability and cooperation in the region.
In response, President U Min Aung Hlaing expressed his great pleasure at meeting Mr Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam, an important pillar of the country’s legislative system. He also extended his congratulations on Mr Tran Thanh Man’s re-election as Chairman of the National Assembly.
He expressed his sincere appreciation for Viet Nam’s dispatch of a delegation to attend the oath-taking ceremony for the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar held in April 2026.
He continued that the meeting would provide an opportunity for frank and cordial discussions on ways to further promote friendship, mutual understanding and trust, and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries. Myanmar and Viet Nam have maintained strong and extensive cooperation not only between their respective governments, armed forces, political parties and peoples, but also across various sectors.
He noted with appreciation that Viet Nam has established diplomatic relations with all United Nations member states and has comprehensive strategic partnership relations with all five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. He also expressed gratitude for Viet Nam’s support for Myanmar in the international and ASEAN landscape.
He said that mutual trust between Viet Nam and Myanmar, together with close contacts among senior officials of the two countries, has contributed to the continued strengthening of relations and cooperation between the two countries and their respective armed forces.
Myanmar regards parliamentary relations with Viet Nam as an important political pillar of bilateral relations. He noted that cooperation between the two political parties and legislative bodies would contribute to further strengthening the existing ties between the two countries, and support for reciprocal visits between the Speakers of the two parliaments.
He said that as Myanmar now has a new government elected by the people and its legislative bodies have resumed operations, Myanmar looks forward to learning from Viet Nam’s experience in legislation and parliamentary oversight. He also called for closer cooperation between the two parliaments, including mutual support at regional and international parliamentary forums and greater cooperation among ASEAN parliaments. He said the new Myanmar Government would implement practical reforms to strengthen the multiparty democratic system and promote national development, while further strengthening friendly relations with neighbouring and partner countries and pursuing regional interests in a balanced manner.
The two leaders then cordially exchanged views on matters concerning the promotion of bilateral cooperation and ways to further enhance cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
They then posed for a commemorative photo and cordially greeted those in attendance. President U Min Aung Hlaing observed the parliament building, departed from the parliament compound, and Mr Tran Thanh Man warmly accompanied him and saw him off. — MNA/KTZH
