ACCORDING to the 3 September release by Meteoblue (ICON Model) and the Thai Meteorological Department, the monsoon across Myanmar is expected to weaken from 3 to 9 September. Meteorologist U Win Naing said that rainfall in Bago and Yangon is likely to decrease significantly after 6 September. From 3 to 5 September, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast in Mon, Kayin, Taninthayi, Rakhine, and upper Sagaing.
However, from 6 to 9 September, the amount and frequency of rainfall may decrease in Ayeyawady, Yangon, Bago, Magway, Mandalay, and lower Sagaing. Water inflow into the Bago River, Ngamoeyeik Creek, and Sittoung River may decrease, and flooding conditions occurring in urban and low-lying areas will also gradually ease.
However, due to upstream water discharge flowing down from upper Sagaing, the water levels of the Ngawun River and the Ayeyawady River will remain high, and the recession may be slow. In Mon, Kayin, and Taninthayi, continued caution is required for the risks of sudden creek water rises, flooding, and landslides in foothill areas.
