The Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar provided cash and food assistance to people affected by a disaster near the Nepal-China border. The relief supplies were transported from Yangon to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, by Tatmadaw Y-8 aircraft. Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Than Soe and officials handed over the assistance on behalf of the Myanmar Government.
Dr Than Soe said the humanitarian assistance from the Government and people of Myanmar was intended to help the disaster-stricken people of Nepal, support their speedy return to normal life, and further strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The assistance, comprising US$500,000 and eight tonnes of beans, including five tonnes of blackgram and three tonnes of chickpeas, was handed over to Nepal’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The Nepali minister expressed appreciation for the assistance and said it would be used effectively to support people affected by the natural disaster and ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. Myanmar assists in response to natural disasters in accordance with international humanitarian principles and works to strengthen friendship and humanitarian cooperation with other countries.
