ACCORDING to the KTCCA, the first breeding of sarus cranes for 2026 has been documented in the Kyonkapyin-Tapseik Community Conservation Area.
As part of its biodiversity conservation efforts, the KTCCA annually monitors and records nesting data and breeding conditions of sarus cranes. With the active participation of locals, its first breeding for 2026 was recorded in July.
These birds typically build nests and begin laying eggs during the rainy season. Sarus cranes usually lay one to two eggs at a time and breed only once a year.
The KTCCA is cooperating with relevant organizations on biodiversity monitoring, educational outreach, fishery resource conservation, and technical support for the sustainable extraction and utilization of natural resources.
Additionally, the KTCCA reported that around 100 bird species, including endangered birds, rare bird species, and resident bird species, currently inhabit the area.
Furthermore, with the aim of providing supplemental income for locals, bird-watching programmes have been established alongside biodiversity conservation. — MT/ZN
