OVER 500 eye patients have received successful surgical treatment through the eye charity programme carried out with the objective of “bringing light to a thousand eyes and a thousand people”, according to Dr Than Min Htut, Senior Medical Superintendent of the Pyinmana Sangha Hospital.
The programme, funded through public collective donations, is designed to help individuals whose vision is impaired by eye conditions such as cataracts and pterygium receive necessary surgical treatments and regain their eyesight.
Surgeries have been conducted at Pyinmana Sangha Hospital, Myaungmya Hospital, and Myitnge Railway Hospital in Mandalay, successfully treating over 500 patients to date— recent updates at Myitnge: 14 patients on 15 August, 20 on 22 August, and a total of 116 patients (105 cataract patients and 11 pterygium patients).
Donors can participate by contributing K200,000 per eye. Individuals who can afford and wish to receive eye surgery can also coordinate by personally contributing K200,000.
Organizers stated they will continue performing eye surgeries through the contributions of donors to restore vision for those suffering from cataracts and other visual impairments.
