THE leader of a minor Japanese opposition party, who is also an artificial intelligence engineer, on Friday gave Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi a lecture on AI technology, a sector her government aims to focus on under its growth strategy.
Takahiro Anno, the 35-year-old head of Team Mirai, which advocates adopting digital technologies to enhance political participation, taught Takaichi how to use a generative AI chatbot to estimate the impact of inflation on households.
“I wish I could have had this” during this year’s main Diet session, which ended last month, Takaichi said after the lecture, adding that the technology could have allowed her to reduce the number of secretaries by “two or so”. She has eight executive secretaries. The meeting was arranged after Anno offered to give Takaichi a lecture on AI during a one-on-one party leaders’ debate in parliament in May, when he stressed the importance of the technology for politicians’ work.
