TO mark the Full Moon Day of Wagoung (Metta Day), grand celebrations, including a procession and offering of flower stupas adorned with 84,000 flowers, were held magnificently at the Shwedagon Pagoda on 28 August, according to the Board of Trustees.
The celebrations began at 5:30 am at designated areas on the pagoda platform. The early meal-offering ceremony was held, and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, regional ministers, members of the Board of Trustees, and religious associations offered meals, flowers, drinking water, oil lamps, and fruits. Following this, the procession of the flower stupas was launched from the gathering point at the ancient Buddha images pavilion.
These flower stupas were subsequently offered to pay homage to the four enlightened Buddhas: the Kakusandha image inside the eastern prayer hall, the Konagamana image inside the southern prayer hall, the Kassapa image inside the western prayer hall, the Gautama image inside the northern prayer hall, and the Ruby Myat Shin Buddha image on the upper terrace by the Board of Trustees and religious volunteer associations. — MT/ZN
