THE opening ceremony of the 29th ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting was held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, yesterday morning.
Thai Prime Minister Mr Anutin Charnvirakul delivered the opening address, with labour ministers and senior officials from ASEAN member states and representatives of international organizations attending. Myanmar was represented by Union Minister for Labour U Khin Maung Soe, Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Zaw Zaw Soe and a delegation.
The meeting will discuss the implementation of the ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Work Programme for 2026-2030 and other labour-related matters for consideration and approval by ASEAN labour ministers.
In the afternoon, U Khin Maung Soe met Lao Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Mr Phongsaysack Inthalath to discuss issuing Certificates of Identity (CI) to undocumented Myanmar workers in Laos, facilitating legal remittances, enabling Myanmar workers to work legally through designated border points, issuing identity documents and enhancing bilateral labour cooperation. — MNA/KZL
