RESCUE and relief operations are continuing in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region, after heavy rainfall and river erosion caused a section of the Ngawun River embankment to collapse on the night of 30 July.

The breach led to flooding in five urban wards of Laymyethna, major roads in the town area and 15 urban wards of Hinthada, Yekyi, Ngathainggyoung, Kyonpyaw and Kyaunggon townships and surrounding villages.

Officials from the South-West Command, together with Tatmadaw members from local battalions, Myanmar Police Force members, firefighters, rescue teams, charitable organizations and residents, have been working together to assist and evacuate flood-stricken communities.
