Ayeyawady Region produces more than 140,000 tonnes of corn annually from over 40,000 acres of cultivated land. Further expansion of high-quality corn production is needed to meet domestic consumption needs and export demand, Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw said.
He made the remarks at the first annual meeting of the Ayeyawady Region Corn Industry Association for the 2025-2028 term, held at the Golden Bay Hotel in Chaungtha yesterday morning.
The meeting discussed measures to expand corn cultivation in the region and facilitate the direct export of corn products through Pathein Port.
After the meeting, the chief minister visited Chaungtha Hospital, where he encouraged patients receiving treatment and met healthcare workers and hospital support teams.
He later attended the final match of the township, ward, village and station U21 football tournament at Kyauktaing Sports Ground in Pathein, where Chaungtha FC competed against Family Six FC
