The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) for Parliamentary Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and MSME Development, held a briefing on State economic development and industrial sector initiatives for capacity-building of parliamentarians in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Speaker U Aung Lin Dwe said the briefing was the second event organized under the JCC’s parliamentary development initiative in coordination with the Union Government to help lawmakers better understand the government’s implementation of policies and activities related to the country’s industrial sector.
The industrial sector is a cornerstone in building a modern and developed nation. Although the country is rich in natural resources and raw materials, stronger industrial capacity is essential to produce high-quality value-added products.
He added that industrial enterprises and MSMEs are key drivers of the national economy by increasing productivity, creating employment opportunities, and reducing imports and foreign currency expenditure. As MSMEs account for about 90 per cent of businesses worldwide and generate around 60 to 70 per cent of global employment, promoting the sector should be regarded as a national task.
Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr Charlie Than briefed the current economic and industrial situation, prioritized industrial development policies, financial support for MSME development, reforms of state-owned factories, prioritized industries, basic requirements for industrial development, human resource development, transition to a modern industrial system, sustainable industrial development, international cooperation, and future priority programmes.
MPs coordinated the discussion. Nay Pyi Taw MSMEs entrepreneurs displayed and sold their local products, food, commodities, industrial equipment and handicrafts.
