MONSOONS are fuelling a major travel boom in Hpa-an, leaving the town’s premier hotels completely sold out as travellers rush to experience the rainy season, reported industry sources.
Local tourism in Hpaan continues to hit record highs each year as travellers flock to the region to witness its scenic landscapes during the monsoon season.
“As you know, the Hpa-an monsoon tour is currently our best-seller. Due to a massive influx of visitors, rooms in famous hotels are now unavailable. Some have even booked for July,” said a visitor.
Famous tourist attraction sites in Hpa-an include the Kawgun Cave, Rathepyan Cave, Kyaukkalat, Mount Zwegabin, Mount KyaInn, Sadan Cave, Kawkathaung Cave, Mount Taungwine, Loonnya Blue Lake, Naungkhaline Blue Lake, Bayinnyi Cave, Naunglone Valley and Night Market.
With the rise of tourist arrivals, tourism-related businesses such as Oway taxis, car rental services, food sellers and souvenir shops have been doing well.
Local tourism authorities are urging visitors to protect the state’s pristine landscapes and rich cultural heritage by refraining from littering or engaging in behaviour that harms wildlife, historical sites, and the environment.
Visitors are also advised to stop using plastic bags and use environmentally friendly local products to protect the environment and establish sustainable living, authorities added. MT/ZS
