Ready-to-eat Mohinga, Myanmar’s iconic rice noodle dish, is making inroads into European markets, according to information shared at the Mekong Tourism Forum held at Yangon’s Pan Pacific Hotel in the third week of June.
The product is manufactured by Cho Cho Industry, based in Nwekhway, Htaukkyant Town, Yangon Region. Using modern food-processing technology, the company has developed a packaged version of Mohinga that can be prepared in just five minutes, eliminating the need for lengthy cooking while retaining the traditional flavour of the popular dish.
Managing Director Daw Phyo of Cho Cho Industry said Mohinga is already widely recognized by many foreign visitors who have travelled to Myanmar. Some tourists even ask for the dish immediately upon arrival, reflecting its reputation as one of the country’s best-known culinary specialties. She explained, “The company aims to make Mohinga more accessible to people living abroad and in areas where authentic Myanmar food is not readily available. The ready-to-eat product is part of a broader effort to promote Myanmar cuisine internationally and raise awareness of the country’s cultural heritage through food.”
Cho Kitchen, which has been producing food products for 25 years, currently exports mainly to the United States, China and Singapore. The company has also begun penetrating European markets and is seeking opportunities to expand into neighbouring countries.
According to the company, efforts are underway to further improve production standards and packaging to meet international export requirements and strengthen the global profile of Myanmar’s national dish.
