JAPAN departed for their preWorld Cup camp in Mexico on Tuesday, with Daichi Kamada joining his teammates to complete Hajime Moriyasu’s 26-man squad.
The Samurai Blue will train in Monterrey to acclimate to the heat before moving to their base camp in Nashville, Tennessee, days before the start of the tournament co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
“We will do our best so that the people of Japan can celebrate seeing us win the World Cup,” Moriyasu said at a departure ceremony at Narita airport near Tokyo.
Japan begin their campaign against the Netherlands in Group F on 14 June at Dallas Stadium before playing Tunisia on 20 June in Monterrey.
They will return to Dallas Stadium for their third game against Sweden on 25 June.
Midfielder Kamada did not take part in Japan’s World Cup send-off match on Sunday in Tokyo, a 1-0 win for the hosts over Iceland, after he helped Crystal Palace clinch the Conference League title on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in the final. — Kyodo
