A Russian company is cooperating in efforts to enable the operation of the Heat Recovery Power Station (HRPS) at No 2 Steel Mill (Pangpet) in Shan State (South), according to reports.
The Heat Recovery Power Station (HRPS) project is being jointly implemented by the Ministry of Industry and MSME Development in cooperation with TPE Co Ltd of Russia.
Once completed, the HRPS will be capable of generating 40 megawatts of electricity by utilizing waste heat produced from the Waste Heat Boiler of the Romelt Furnace. The electricity generated will enable the steel mill’s smelting operations to run on its own power supply, while surplus electricity will be transmitted and sold to the national grid.
It is also reported that the long-standing objective of establishing the steel mill has now achieved a certain level of success. An oxygen and nitrogen production workshop, which will help the main smelting furnace of the factory reach the required molten iron stage, has already been successfully opened. Efforts are continuing to successfully commission the remaining two facilities – the Heat Recovery Power Station and the Romelt workshop. — ASH/KNN
