Myanmar nationals living around Orange County in California, which is under the declaration of the state of emergency, will need to pay a close attention to official emergency declarations by respective authorities and follow their advice, said the Myanmar Consulate-General in Los Angeles.
The chemical facility in Garden Grove has experienced a leak of highly inflammable and toxic chemical called methyl methacrylate and the situation remains critical, said the embassy.
The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) has issued a warning for the evacuation of about 50,000 residents and the California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on 23 May.Therefore, Myanmar nationals in Orange County living around the chemical facility will need to closely watch authorities’ official emergency declarations.
In the event of emergency evacuation, they can contact evacuation centres and Myanmar Consulate-General hot line number 214 4106143 and office phone number 213 3870043, the Myanmar Consulate-General in Los Angeles urged.
