LAOS is continuing efforts to strengthen digital transformation and expand secure digital infrastructure as part of its long-term socioeconomic development strategy.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday to mark the 161st anniversary of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), observed annually on 17 May, Lao Minister of Technology and Communications Santisouk Simmalavong highlighted the growing importance of digital infrastructure in modern society.

This year’s theme, “Digital Lifelines: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World”, reflects the critical role of digital systems in supporting communication, economic growth and national security, he said.

Santisouk noted that Laos is undergoing rapid digital transformation, highlighting the country’s celebration of National Postal and Telecommunications Day on 13 March under the theme “Upgrading Postal and Telecommunications Infrastructure into Digital Infrastructure for Socio-Economic Development”, which is in line with this year’s WTISD theme. — Xinhua
