On the occasion of the International Day of Families, which falls on 15 May 2026, The Global New Light of Myanmar extends its heartfelt wishes to families around the world for good health, happiness, and the strength to successfully overcome the challenges of daily life. In reality, as the world has increasingly accepted a paradigm of globalization like one global village, families of different peoples and nations have, in fact, become one global family, and the world itself has become a family world.

People from diverse communities, cultures, and religions all certainly hope to enjoy the fruits of peace and stability within their families. If possible, all living beings, including humans, wish to avoid hardships and live in peace, happiness, and prosperity. In reality, people around the world struggle day by day to overcome the difficulties they face in their lives.

However, they all have to notice they all experience similar difficulties, challenges and obstacles in their lives, and they have to overcome them to be resolved successfully. In fact, it is the nature of life. No one can deny it and avoid it. As such, they all have to strive to face these challenges bravely, but they need to join hands with one another. They all need to lend a helping hand to one another with affection, sympathy and compassion, discarding hatred, grudges and retaliation against others. They should also be mindful not to commit intentional and unintentional actions that may harm others. If so, all societies and communities will be peaceful, happy and prosperous.

Peoples from all countries need to shape their families to become prosperous ones with equality among family members and child well-being. They have the right to shape the future of their families. As such, their families must be strong in both physical and mental well-being. They have to strive to build a secure future that enables future generations to be able to enjoy a better life. What a wonderful goal!

The United Nations has adopted the theme for 2026’s commemorative day as “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing”. The United Nations aims that the theme calls for stronger investment in integrated, family-oriented policies to reduce disparities and support healthy child development. It will emphasize the need for integrated social protection systems, including child benefits, parental leave, affordable childcare and early education, to strengthen family resilience, reduce poverty and promote equal opportunities.
