THE World Press Freedom Day ceremony was held yesterday morning at the training hall of the Myanmar Press Council (MPC) office on Merchant Street, Botahtaung Township, Yangon Region.

The World Press Freedom Day message from Union Minister for Information U Htein Lin was first read by U Kyaw Zin Thant, Deputy Director-General of the Media Development Department under the Ministry of Information. Then, MPC Chair Dr Tin Tun Oo delivered the opening speech.

MPC First Vice-Chairman U Khin Maung Zaw discussed issues related to global press freedom, while MPC Second Vice-Chairman U Khin Maung Kyaw Din discussed issues related to press freedom in Myanmar. Participants then discussed topics related to World Press Freedom Day. The theme of this year’s 33rd World Press Freedom Day is “Shaping a Future at Peace”, and the event is being held with four objectives.

The ceremony was also attended by MPC Secretary U Hla Htut Oo and council members, officials from the Department of Information and Public Relations, invitees from the Myanmar Journalists Association and media, and third-year interns from the Department of Journalism, National Management Degree College.
