Vice-President U Nyo Saw and his wife paid homage to the Maravijaya Buddha Image with flowers, water and oil lamps.

Vice-President U Nyo Saw and his wife, Vice-President Nan Ni Ni Aye, Chief Justice of the Union U Tha Htay, Chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union U Aung Zaw Thein and his wife, Chairman of the Union Election Commission U Than Soe and his wife, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swa Lin and his wife, Union ministers and their wives, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives sprinkled the scented water on the Maha Bodhi banyan tree and watered it. They also offered water to the Buddha images kept around the banyan tree.

The Vice-Presidents and attendees cordially greeted the people who came to pay homage to the Buddha images and visited religious edifices such as the Gandakuti chambers, Kyauksayon Pagoda, Mucalinda Lake, and Nagayon Pagoda in the Buddha Park. They also viewed round the decorated floats to mark the Buddha Day – Kason Full Moon Day.

Kason Full Moon Day (Buddha Day) is traditionally referred to as the Day of the Buddha Who conquered Mara. On this day each year, people pour water on Bodhi trees, which are regarded as sacred (paribhoga cetis), with the sincere wish that the original Maha Bodhi tree – believed to have emerged at the same time as the birth of the Buddha-to-be – and its descendant trees remain evergreen, healthy, and flourishing. The act of watering the banyan tree is performed in reverence, with reflection on the Buddha’s attainment of victory over the five Maras. — MNA/TTA
