The Myanmar Government has designated the fight against telecom fraud and online gambling activities, which pose threats to both the country and the international community, as a national responsibility, and is actively carrying out operations in coordination with domestic forces and neighbouring countries to ensure that such activities cannot establish a base within Myanmar.

Yesterday evening, two Chinese nationals and 12 Myanmar nationals who had been involved in online fraud and gambling operations and were on the run were arrested in Muse, northern Shan State, together with related equipment used in their activities. In addition, 26 illegal Chinese nationals residing unlawfully in Myanmar were also arrested from residential areas in Muse.

Acting on intelligence that online fraud and gambling activities were being conducted in Muse, a joint security team carried out inspections. At approximately 4:10 pm, the team discovered and arrested two Chinese nationals and 12 Myanmar nationals who had been involved in such activities and were in hiding inside a house in Phwayhone area, Tawywet Ward, Muse Township. A range of equipment used in the operations was also seized, including 24 mobile phones, 19 all-in-one computers, one TP-Link device, and six Wi-Fi routers.

Furthermore, based on information that foreign nationals were staying illegally in Muse, the joint team conducted another inspection at approximately 4:30 pm at a house in Homon Ward, where 26 Chinese nationals who had entered and were residing in the country illegally were found and arrested.

The seized equipment used in online fraud and gambling operations will be handled in accordance with established procedures. Those arrested will be prosecuted effectively under the law, and further investigations will be carried out to identify and take legal action against other individuals involved behind the scenes.

The Government of Myanmar is actively cooperating in efforts to combat online fraud and gambling. It is also conducting legal screening of foreign nationals who, for various reasons, are present in Myanmar and are found to be involved in such activities. In line with humanitarian considerations and friendly relations between countries, arrangements are being made to repatriate such individuals to their respective countries. Major offenders are being detained and formally handed over to the relevant authorities, while effective legal action is being taken under the law.
