New flight routes have been launched and expanded in Dawei, Taninthayi Region, as part of efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and development.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Dawei Airport at 9 am yesterday, was organized by Myanmar National Airlines under the guidance of the President.
Officials formally opened the ceremony with a ribbon-cutting and performed a traditional blessing of the aircraft with scented water. The Taninthayi Region Chief Minister also presented awards to the band and dance troupe that performed at the event.
At the ceremony, the Chief Minister said the expansion of air routes in the Taninthayi Region marks an important milestone not only for the aviation sector but also for regional economic growth, tourism, healthcare access, and overall development. He noted that cities such as Dawei, Myeik, Bokpyin, and Kawthoung have strong potential for both domestic and international trade and tourism, and that expanded air connectivity is vital infrastructure for regional progress.
The first flight of the newly launched route was operated by Captain Aung Zaw Lin and co-pilot Captain Aung Thin, who presented commemorative gifts to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister and the officials concerned also exchanged souvenirs to mark the occasion. —Taninthayi Region (IPRD)/KZL
