The 55th Kason Banyan tree watering festival will be held at the Botahtaung Pagoda on the full moon day of Kason, the Buddha Day, according to the Pagoda’s Board of Trustees.
Organized by the Board of Trustees, the ceremony involves pouring water on the Maha Bodhi Tree – a sacred Paribhoga Ceti at the Botahtaung Pagoda.
The opening ceremony for this festival will take place at 6:30 am on 30 April at the Nan Oo religious hall, located at the Sunday corner of the pagoda platform.
Furthermore, scented water and pots of victory Eugenia sprigs will be provided at the Maha Bodhi tree at the pagoda’s western corner, allowing monks and lay devotees to participate in the water-pouring ritual throughout the day.
To accommodate both local and international pilgrims, the pagoda’s visiting hours were extended by one hour starting from 20 January 2026, and visitors can now pay their respects until 9 pm daily.
