DUE to a noticeable rise in daytime temperatures in early April, green shade nets are being installed along streets in townships across the Yangon Region to help people cope with the heat, it is reported.

β€œIn Yangon, daytime temperatures have risen significantly in recent days. As more people are suffering from intense heat and needing medical treatment, many townships are setting up green shade canopies along streets in individual wards. Water is also being sprayed underneath, which helps to reduce the heat,” said U Hla Myint, a resident of Botahtaung Township in Yangon Region.

During the first ten days of April 2026, daytime temperatures in the Yangon Region were about one to two degrees Fahrenheit higher than usual. For the second ten-day period of April 2026, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has forecast that daytime temperatures are likely to remain around the April average.

As temperatures continue to rise, the Ministry of Health has also made preparations in four major hospitals across the Yangon Region to provide necessary healthcare for patients suffering from heat-related illnesses.
