Tatmadaw Commander-in-Chief post handed over

A military parade honouring the ceremony to hand over duties of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of the Myanmar Tatmadaw of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was held at Zeyathiri Beikman. Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing handed over duties of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services to Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Ye Win Oo.

Incumbent Deputy Commander-in-Chief Hands Over Responsibilities to Successor

A ceremonial military parade to hand over duties of the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of Myanmar Tatmadaw of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar took place at Zeyathiri Beikman in Nay Pyi Taw. Vice-Senior General Soe Win handed over the duties of the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services to Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin.

Pyithu Hluttaw Elects Senior General Min Aung Hlaing as Vice-President

The second-day meeting of the group of the Pyithu Hluttaw representatives comprising the presidential electoral college was held at the convention hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw in the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw. Pyithu Hluttaw representatives drew the ballots for the secret voting to elect a Vice-President and cast votes secretly. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing won 247 votes while Dr Kyaw Swe secured 10 votes among 260 voters. The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker approved Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who was elected with the largest number of votes by the group of Pyithu Hluttaw representatives under Rule 22 of the Election Rules of President and Vice-Presidents.

Amyotha Hluttaw Names Nan Ni Ni Aye Vice-President

The group of Amyotha Hluttaw representatives involved in the presidential electoral college held its second-day meeting at the convention hall of the Amyotha Hluttaw at the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw. In the electoral process, Nan Ni Ni Aye from the Kayin State Constituency 1 (PR System) won 117 votes, while Dr Manam Tu Ja from the Kachin State Constituency 2 (PR System) secured 38 votes. The Speaker approved that Nan Ni Ni Aye from the Kayin State Constituency 1 (PR System) was elected as the Vice-President.

U Nyo Saw elected as Vice-President

The group of Defence Services Personnel representatives held a meeting on the selection of the Vice-President in accord with the law and rules of election for the President and Vice-President at the Hsinbyushin Hall in the Nay Pyi Taw Transit Centre. The meeting approved U Nyo Saw (Pyithu Hluttaw representative of the Cocokyun Constituency) as the Vice-President elected by the group of Defence Services Personnel representatives.

Prioritizing rail transport key to curbing commodity price rises

Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing made the statement at a meeting on ensuring the availability of sufficient fuel and fertilizers for agricultural activities, held at the meeting hall of the Office of the National Defence and Security Council Chairman in Nay Pyi Taw.

Pyidaungsu Hluttaw to elect President on 3 April

The Joint Bill Committee, the Joint Public Accounts Committee, and the Hluttaw Representative Scrutiny Committee were established at the second-day meeting of the first regular session of the Third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. It will elect President on 3 April.

National Planning and Union Budget Laws approved

The National Defence and Security Council, on 31 March, approved and promulgated the National Planning Law for the 2026-2027 financial year under the National Defence and Security Council Law 21/2026, and the Union Budget Law for the 2026-2027 financial year under the National Defence and Security Council Law 22/2026. These laws are reported to have come into effect from 1 April 2026.

People’s Military Service Law amended

The National Defence and Security Council enacts the Amendment to the People’s Military Service Law under Section 427 of the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing elected as President

The presidential election of the Third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw took place at the convention hall of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw at the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw. The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw representatives elected Senior General Min Aung Hlaing as President and U Nyo Saw and Nan Ni Ni Aye as Vice-Presidents.
