Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected the progress in implementing the Hwehtaik hydropower project in Lahe of Naga Self-Administered Zone in Sagaing Region yesterday afternoon.

At the project hall, an official reported to the Senior General on the implementation of the hydropower project in the financial years and the progress of work.

In response, the Senior General gave guidance on efforts to carry out necessary construction tasks before the rainy season, the installation of power lines in advance, formulating the plans to supply electricity, and the construction of the foundation of the project before the rainy season, as the project area is included in the unfavourable weather areas. He stressed that, as the project can contribute much to the socioeconomic improvement of residents, it is necessary to implement the project systematically.

He viewed the scale model of the power station and gave necessary guidance to officials.

The Hwehtaik hydropower project is being implemented on the Hwehtaik Creek in Lahe Township, the Naga Self-Administered Zone in Sagaing Region. The power station to be installed with a four megawatt capacity turbine will generate 20.381 million kilowatt hours per year. Upon completion, the project will electrify 1,718 households in Lahe and 12 nearby villages.

The Senior General paid homage to Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Sumana, the leader of Naga Hills Missionary Centre, at Theravada Buddhist Missionary Monastery in Lahe and offered cash for nine prerequisites, rice, cooking oil, salt and other alms to the Sayadaw.

He supplicated the efforts to propagate Buddhism to the Sayadaw and gave guidance to officials for fulfilling the needs of the Sayadaw.

While in Lahe, the Senior General cordially met students and encouraged them to learn education with the utmost effort.

Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, the wife of the Senior General, together with the wife of the Commission Secretary and party, donated offerings to nuns at Theravada Missionary Nunnery in Lahe and fulfilled their needs.
