Upgrading works on the Yangon-Pathein Highway will be completed by April, at the end of the 2025-26 financial year, according to the Department of Highways (Ayeyawady Region) under the Ministry of Construction.

The Yangon-Pathein Highway runs for 113 miles and two furlongs. A private company is carrying out concrete paving works under the BOD system along a three-mile section between the down-ramp of Bo Myat Tun Bridge and Pantanaw. In addition, 30-foot-wide concrete paving is under way along a section of about six miles between Pantanaw and Kyaunggon.

Officials said the project also includes widening earth embankments, levelling subgrade layers and extending asphalt road shoulders with concrete. At milepost 59, concrete widening of about three furlongs on one side has already been completed, with further works continuing. Heavy machinery is being intensively deployed along the six-mile section, which authorities aim to complete as a 30-foot-wide concrete road by the end of March.

Similarly, section-by-section works are progressing along the highway, including asphalt overlay works between Kyaunggon and Kankalay, road upgrading and shoulder widening between Kankalay and Dahka, and asphalt overlay and embankment widening between Dahka and Pathein.

Repair, maintenance and expansion works on the Yangon-Pathein Highway are being carried out using Union budget, with relevant departments accelerating progress to ensure smoother travel before April.
