CONCERNING the application filed by the Gambia alleging that Myanmar of violating the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, the International Court of Justice will hold public hearings starting from 12 January 2026 at the Peace Palace, The Hague, the Netherlands.
To attend the aforementioned hearings, the Myanmar delegation led by U Ko Ko Hlaing, Agent of Myanmar and Union Minister for the Ministry 2 of the President’s Office, and Dr Thida Oo, Alternate Agent of Myanmar and Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Attorney-General of the Union, left for The Hague, the Netherlands on 9 January 2026. Officials saw off the delegation at the Yangon International Airport.
The hearings are reported to be held from 12 to 29 January 2026, and Myanmar will present two rounds of oral arguments; the first round from 16 to 20 January and the second round from 28 to 29 January.
