MYANMAR’S medal haul at the XXXIII South-East Asia Games in Thailand has increased by 17, following a series of successful performances in Bangkok and Chonburi.

The latest tally includes one silver and one bronze in Sepak Takraw, nine bronze medals in Muay Thai, three in wrestling, two in traditional boat racing, and one in sailing.

Throughout the competitions, Myanmar’s athletes have been supported by a high-level delegation, including the Secretary-General of the Myanmar Olympic Committee and Deputy Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Htein Lin, alongside Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun, and Myanmar Ambassador U Zaw Zaw Soe. The delegation maintained a busy schedule of attendance at various sporting venues. On the morning of 18 December, U Htein Lin and team officials visited the Royal Thai Navy Rowing and Canoeing Training Centre in Rayong to observe the dragon boat racing events. They watched Myanmar compete in the 200-metre races for the Men’s Small Boat, Women’s Small Boat, and Mixed Standard Boat categories, with the team ultimately securing two bronze medals in the Men’s Small Boat and Mixed Standard Boat events.

Simultaneously, Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Tun and other team leaders attended the Nakhon Pathom Sports Centre to support the Sepak Takraw teams. Myanmar’s athletes performed strongly against Laos and Vietnam, ultimately securing a silver medal in the men’s quadrant event and a bronze in the women’s quadrant team event.

Further success was found across a variety of other disciplines. In the sailing competition, the mixed SSL47 team captured a bronze medal, while the wrestling contingent earned three bronze medals in the women’s freestyle under 50-kilogramme, under 53-kilogramme, and under 57-kilogramme categories. The Muay Thai team contributed significantly to the total, adding nine bronze medals across multiple weight classes for both men and women, ranging from 45 kilogrammes to 71 kilogrammes. Following these results on 18 December, Myanmar occupies seventh place in the overall standings with a total of 64 medals — three golds, 20 silvers, and 41 bronzes.
