Myanmar-Saint Petersburg Friendship and Tourism Development Meeting was held on 17 October at the Mingala Hall of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) to boost tourism between the two countries.

The Yangon Region Government’s Minister for Economic Affairs received a delegation led by Mr Vyacheslav Kalganov of the Russian Federation’s Saint Petersburg City Government and the economic attache of the Embassy of the Russian Federation.

The meeting highlighted encouraging Myanmar travellers to visit Saint Petersburg, attracting Russian tourists to visit Myanmar and promoting tourism exchange. Saint Petersburg is a destination with rich history and vibrant colour, ancient historical buildings and tourism spots with natural scenic views. Media outlets, tourism companies and government officials are invited to attend tourism expos and travel the city.

Additionally, the Union of Myanmar Travel Association, Myanmar Airways International and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism are invited to attend Russia’s Travel Mart annual event that is scheduled to take place on 11 and 15 December.

UMTA’s chairman discussed tourism cooperation matters and invited Russian tourists to visit pagodas, cultural heritage buildings, coastal regions, and destinations for nature lovers.

Furthermore, the Central Bank of Myanmar’s officials raised matters related to currency swap to facilitate operations, while Myanmar Airways International also discussed flight deals. The UMTA’s chairman and the Russian Federation’s delegation exchanged commemorative gifts.
