A Michael Jackson impersonator, known as “Michael Jackton”, is leveraging his social media fame to address issues of overtourism in Osaka, Japan. With nearly 13 million TikTok followers, he performs in the bustling Dotombori district, captivating tourists while promoting less crowded attractions. In May, he was seen dancing and encouraging visitors to explore quieter areas, while also picking up litter to raise awareness about cleanliness. The Osaka Convention and Tourism Bureau reported that the city welcomed 14.59 million visitors in 2024, leading to concerns about overcrowding.

Jackton aims to enhance tourist satisfaction by showcasing lesser-known local customs and attractions, helping to alleviate congestion in popular areas.

“We are exceeding our capacity to accept (tourists),” a bureau official said. “Drawing people to less crowded areas is a big challenge, so we’re grateful for the support of influencers.”
