IRAN will welcome the launch of a uranium enrichment centre in the region, but will continue uranium enrichment on its soil, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said here Sunday.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Iranian parliament’s national security and foreign policy committee, Araghchi said that regarding the Iran-US indirect talks, the Iranian side has never left the negotiating table and will continue the diplomatic path, but it will not negotiate under pressure, the official news agency IRNA reported.
He also warned of a “harsh” response if France, Germany, and Britain, collectively known as the E3, trigger the snapback mechanism and reimpose sanctions.
The mechanism is a clause in a 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed between Iran and six countries — Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States. The mechanism would allow the other parties to reimpose all international sanctions should Tehran fail to comply with the agreement.
