THE Mahamuni Buddha Image, currently under renovation following the Mandalay earthquake, is scheduled to open to the public every Sabbath, according to a statement from the Image Board of Trustees.
On regular weekdays, devotees can worship at the Mahamuni Buddha Image from the entrance of the eastern archway. However, on Sabbaths, arrangements are made to allow them to enter and worship directly in front of the Mahamuni Buddha statue.
“On the Sabbath day, we were allowed to enter through the eastern archway from 8 am to 4 pm. We are grateful that arrangements have been made for us to enter from the front of the pagoda, as before,” said a local pilgrim. The bejewelled diamond orb of the pagoda, which was damaged by the earthquake, will be rededicated, while the pennant-shaped vane and golden umbrella will be renovated and enshrined for worship.
