RAIN is forecast to be high in Kachin State’s Sumprabum over the next week, and the river current will be strong, meteorologist U Win Naing said. Under the detailed forecast, rainfall may be above 2.5 inches on 23 and 24 April along the upstream Malikha River, Sumprabum and upper Tanai, he said. The river level may rise in Myitkyina and Bhamo, and Katha, which are located at the lower part of the river; however, there is no possibility of approaching the danger level, he added. Google Flood Hub shows that the rain is expected to be high in upper Sumprabum, and the Malikha River may flood, but no chance of reaching the danger level. However, U Win Naing warned that residents should be cautious that the river current may be strong. Over the next week from 19 to 25 April, it is expected that there may be moderate to high rain in Kachin State, upper Sagaing Region and Shan State (North), and slight rain in some areas of northern Magway Region and some areas of Shan State (East), he said. — MT/ZS
