REPORTS claiming that an air attack in Natogyi Township, Mandalay Region, killing four locals and injuring 11 others, were widely circulated by malicious news media, which spread misinformation.
Upon enquiry with a local security official, it was revealed that insurgents in the area have resorted to violence and destruction. They are said to brutally kill and torture those who do not support them and burn villages. The public is reportedly becoming increasingly aware of these actions.
Subversive news media are accused of concealing the extremists’ activities while spreading false claims to create public fear, disrupt regional stability, and sow division between security forces and civilians. The fabricated news appears to serve as propaganda aimed at furthering the extremists’ agenda.
