The 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY) and the 9th ASEAN Plus Three Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY+3) were held yesterday at the MGallery Hotel in Dekkhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw. Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan, who chaired the ASEAN Youth Ministers’ Meeting, along with Deputy Ministers and Myanmar delegates, ASEAN Youth Ministers from member states, the ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for the Social and Cultural Community, and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat, attended the meeting either in person or virtually.
At the meeting, the Union Minister emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among member states to provide opportunities for the younger generation to succeed.
The meeting continued with the reading of the report of the 13th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth (SOMY), followed by country statements from the ASEAN Youth Ministers and discussions on joint statements. The time and venue for the 14th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth were also discussed, after which the first part of the meeting was adjourned.
In the second part of the meeting, the 9th ASEAN Plus Three Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY+3) was convened. The Union Minister, as Chair, encouraged the sharing of suggestions for creating stronger ASEAN Plus Three youth cooperation through the use of digital technology, in line with new visions and plans for 2025 and beyond. The minister also expressed hope for positive outcomes that would lead to better opportunities and development for the youth.
Following the presentation of the 12th ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Youth reports, Youth Ministers discussed Myanmar’s chairmanship theme and approved joint ministerial statements. The date and venue for the next meeting were also determined.
Afterward, the chairmanship of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth was passed to the Philippines, while the co-chairmanship of the ASEAN Plus Three Ministerial Meeting on Youth was transferred to the Philippines and Japan. The meeting was then concluded.
The related meetings — the 13th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth and the 12th ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Youth — were also held on 28 and 29 November at the MGallery Hotel under the chairmanship of the Director-General of the Department of Youth Affairs.
