The 2/2024 meeting of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2025 Implementation Committees was held on 22 November 2024 at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Office 1, Nay Pyi Taw. The meeting was led by Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Kan Zaw and attended by deputy ministers and officials, who are the chairs of 22 working committees, and directors-general and representatives.
Union Minister Dr Kan Zaw addressed the opening remarks in the meeting. The Union minister shared the experiences of the 56th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Meeting and Related Meetings, which were held in September 2024, and the 24th ASEAN Economic Community Council (AECC) Meeting, which was held on October 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
The Union minister urged the working committees to cooperate in the implementation of this year’s Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs), which was set by Lao PDR under her ASEAN chairmanship, and Annual Priorities to be implemented in 2024 together with other ASEAN Member States in a timely manner.
He highlighted the importance of the ASEAN Centrality and urged the working committee to maintain the ASEAN Centrality in the discussion with the dialogue partners of ASEAN. Furthermore, he also tasked the work committed to intensity the efforts to implement the AEC activities in the coming year to support the achievement of AEC 2025, and the work to develop the strategic schedule of AEC post-2025.
Afterwards, Dr Marlar Myo Nyunt, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, and the lead of the ASEAN Senior Economic Official Meeting explained the discussions and outcomes of the 56th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Meeting and Related Meetings, and the 24th ASEAN Economic Community Council (AECC) Meeting, and the activities to be carried out in 2024.
Then, chairs of the working committees, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, and directors-general reported on the implementation of the AEC measures and the challenges of the implementation especially the need for capacity building. The Union minister provided instructions on the report of the working committees.
Twenty-two working committees were established for the effective implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2025, which was led by deputy ministers and permanent secretaries from the relevant ministries.
