ACCORDING to a labour activist, there is a rising number of garment workers going to work in Laos.
Some of them are recruited by factory owners while some are employed through brokers.
“Some garment workers are going to Laos. Some are directly recruited by the factory, and some are employed by the brokers such as managers. We encourage the workers to obtain accurate information from Safe Migration for safety before they are going abroad,” she said.
Labour ministries of Laos and Myanmar signed an MoU on labour cooperation in Vientiane, Laos, on 21 October in order to establish bilateral basic labour principles and practices.
Currently, domestic workers are going abroad to work in foreign countries including China, Dubai and Qatar, and many young people were employed through TikTok communications, she added.
“Some were called by the factory owners. Some were employed after TikTok communications. TikTok is said to be very dangerous. Some victims are people who were invited via TikTok. Despite restrictions, people are still going to Dubai and Qatar. Some are convenient, but some aren’t,” she said.
