UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade continue effectively by the law.

On 15 and 18 October, the combined on-duty teams nabbed a kind of consumer goods worth K47.642 million without official documents from four containers at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint, consumer goods and jewellery valued at K69.301 million without official documents at the Yangon International Airport (Import Desk) and consumer goods that were smuggled and piled up by the side of road over the Sinphyu border, valued at K32.4 million in Muse Township. The action was conducted following Customs procedures.

The combined teams supervised by the Kayin State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections in the seizures of a Mitsubishi Canter (approximately K25 million), heading to Myaingkalay from Hpa-an, carrying industrial materials worth K9.72 million without official documents at the Thanlwin bridge combined checkpoint (Tayokhla side) and a Daihatsu Hijet (estimated value of K15 million), travelling from Hpa-an to Mawlamyine, carrying a kind of industrial materials valued at K3 million without official documents at the Zathapyin combined checkpoint. The action was carried out according to Customs procedures.

On 19 October, illegal teak weighing 7.249 tonnes, illegal hardwood weighing 4.660 tonnes and illegal other timbers weighing 3.511 tonnes were captured in Bago Region. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 11 arrests on 15, 18 and 19 October, resulting in the seizure of illegal goods worth approximately K207 million.
