ON 6 October, Khit Thit Media reported on its Facebook page that prison officials are pressuring Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) staff currently imprisoned in the Monywa prison to return to their duties.
Upon investigation, it was found that there were no political prisoners at the Monywa prison. Instead, the prison only houses individuals who have been convicted of crimes by the court under existing laws. Among those serving sentences, some are CDM participants, and the claim that they are coerced to renounce their involvement in CDM is unsubstantiated.
Moreover, prison officials did not summon inmates regarding their crimes in a coercive manner. Rather, they encouraged inmates to adhere to prison rules and regulations.
The allegations made by Khit Thit Media seem to be intended to mislead the public and misrepresent the functions of the prison.
