UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade continue effectively in accordance with the law. On 7 and 8 October, combined teams captured 40 barrels of smuggled fuel oil, five kinds of foodstuffs and two kinds of consumer goods valued at K21.7 million in Pathein District, a kind of industrial materials worth K128.498 million without official documents from two containers at the Myanmar Industrial Port, three kinds of industrial materials and a kind of consumer goods valued at K157.749 million without official documents at the Yangon International Airport and a Dongfeng tractor head with a trailer (approximately K60 million) carrying a kind of foodstuffs and a kind of industrial materials valued at K70.88 million at the Ywathagyi Dry Port. The action was taken under Customs procedures and the Counter-Terrorism Law. On 8 October, combined teams conducted inspections and seized illegal teak weighing 0.837 tonne worth K736,912 from Toyota Voxy (worth approximately K9 million) in Dagon Myothit (South) Township, illegal timbers weighing 3.378 tonnes worth K1.756 million in Taikkyi Township, and two unregistered motorbikes (estimated value of K600,000) in Magway and Thayet Districts. The action was carried out under the Export-Import Law and the Forest Law. On 9 October, the combined on-duty teams captured a Mitsubishi Fuso truck and a Toyota Dyna truck (worth approximately K55 million) carrying jewellery worth K89.952 million without official documents in Pyigyidagun Township, a Nissan Diesel truck (worth approximately K35 million) carrying 25 kinds of motorbike spare parts and two kinds of consumer goods valued at K33.504 million without official documents at the checkpoint in Singaing Township. The action was conducted in line with Customs procedures. The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that 22 arrests were made on three consecutive days from 7 to 9 October, resulting in the seizure of illegal goods worth approximately K664.377 million.
